Although that was back in the Test arena but nothing different can be said about their expected performances in the on-going World T-20. South Africa are yet to win a single major championship in Cricketing history and the Proteas have to be the 'Ultimate Opportunists' to get themselves rid of the 'chokers' tag. England however, on the other hand would be looking to take away the World T20 for the second consecutive occasion.
With a facile outing for both the teams against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, their big test lie ahead on Saturday and Sunday as South Africa and England take on Asian giants Sri Lanka and India respectively. With conditions most favorable to the finalists of last year's World Cup, the top two Test teams will have their skins tested to advance to Super 8's.
Both the teams go head to head as far as their overall balance is concerned. Let's be very honest and face the fact that currently England and South Africa are the only two teams who have the best Team composition. Both DeVilliars and Broad have their plans sorted out. They don’t have to ponder over as to how many batsmen and bowlers to play. In fact, all the players are at the prime of their careers and can make the match their own on any given day.
With an explosive opening pair in Levi and Amla, the best all-rounder Kallis, the best ODI batsman DeVilliars, consistent Duminy, swift as a lightening Farhan Behardien and the best bowler in the world Steyn; the proteas possess a line-up that can dethrone any opposition provided they all come good.
On the other hand, England with their 2010 World Cup win have been a side that has never looked back after a run of consistent performances over the last couple of years. Although unlike South Africa, England's main strength lies in their bowling which comprises the likes of pacers Broad, Anderson, Dernbach and Finn along with number one spinner Swann accompanied by Samit Patel.
It is likely that both these teams will go toe-to-toe sometime later during the tournament and provide a match for the pundits to savor. Clearly, it'll be England's bowling vs South Africa's batting. However, with that being said no one can count-out the fact that the bowling department of South Africa and England's batting area has what it takes to come-out on top. Well, we all know what Kallis (4 for 15) and Luke Wright (99 0ff 55) did to Zimbabwe and Afghanistan respectively.
Somewhat both England and South Africa can be termed as favorites as well as the Dark Horses. With the unpredictability, i.e. - Cricket we have learned that it’s never official till the time its official. It remains to be seen if England will continue to embark upon their previous performances and take another new stride or will South Africa finally stand on the top of the World and win their first major championship.
