So then, the other day I was sitting at home doing nothing as usual, as a result my mum almost got me bitten by GABBAR- my dog, which further led me to this. I've always wondered about the misfortunes of the Englishmen, since International Cricket became what it is today.
Its almost 2 centuries, that the country known as the Home Of Cricket had experienced a major title win. The 1979 and the 1992 World Cup Final saw the England team being throbbed down by Australia and Pakistan respectively. They have the record of losing the maximum number of Home Series against all the Test Playing nations. They lost the Natwest Final to India even after scoring a mammoth 320+, and then bare witnessing a major upset from the Men from the ‘CARRIBEAN’ in the 2004 Champion’s Trophy final when the No. 8 and 9 Batsmen. IE- Courtney Browne and Ian Bradshaw completed the task of getting 70 odd runs in the last 10 overs.
Perhaps the only thing for England to cherish in the past decade was the Ashes 2005 victory with some ‘HEAVY’ names being able to live up to their reputation, until May 16th 2010 happened. Perhaps it were the prayers of all the Cricketing playing countries, except The Kangaroos who wanted the Englishmen to win their first ever major championship tournament and more importantly, wanted the Aussies to continue being eluded from the only Trophy that hasn't yet being kissed by the venomous lips of an Australian.
England defiantly beat their opposition in all the prospects. Their Batting was superior; the Bowling that looked Fragile for the whole tournament had outclassed the Aussie Pace-Battery and their fielding would have given the 4-time World Champions a tip or 2.
Batting first, the Aussies looked vulnerable of getting dismissed way before the projected 147 when they were rattled at 8/3, but some gutsy display of “WORKING WITH THE WILLOW” from David Hussey and a cameo from Cameron White, who’s come good with the bat recently would have steadied some nerves.
Ok, before I go any further I don’t really get the concept of the ‘HUSSEY BROTHERS’ to the rescue act. Wonder if they have been threatened to make at least one of them play well, otherwise they’ll get their wives swapped or what. Always the case with them, more like the Geoff Marsh and David Boon duo as they too used to follow the same policy in the early 70’s and 80’s. In reply, England lost Michael Lumb in the second over before adding a couple to his score. Then what we witnessed was not again the ‘SORRY’ tale of England losing wickets after a bad opening start, but a “Steadying a Boat that was rocked by the TAIT-PACE”.
A remarkable 111-run stand between the promising youngster Craig Kieswetter and the in-form Kevin Pietersen sealed the victory. By the time the pair was dismissed, it was all a little late for Clarke and Co. as Collingwood and Eoin Morgan secured the title a few balls later. I finally feel extremely happy with the result. I cant really say with what prospect- England winning, or the Aussies losing. But I can confidently say, that after being nailed out after Yuvraj smashed them for half a dozen sixes in an over from the first edition, and being humiliated by the Dutch side in the opening contest of the second, this win must have rested all the ‘BLACK MAGIC’ that English team, in ODI’s was suffering from.
